Verdanta is located on the quieter, eastern side of Coonoor — away from the town's bustle, deep within the private Thiashola tea estate at an elevation of 6,000 feet. The nearest city is Coimbatore, a major aviation and rail hub in Tamil Nadu.
By Air
Coimbatore International Airport
Distance: 85 km (approximately 2.5 hours by road)
Coimbatore International Airport (CJB) receives daily direct flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. International travellers can connect through Bangalore (BLR) or Chennai (MAA), both of which offer frequent onward flights to Coimbatore.
We offer a complimentary private car transfer from Coimbatore airport for all guests staying two nights or more. The drive winds through the plains, climbs the Nilgiri ghat road through 36 hairpin bends, and arrives at the estate gates — a journey that is itself a gradual decompression from city to cloud.
Helicopter transfers from Coimbatore to a private helipad near the estate can be arranged on request (approximately 25 minutes).
By Rail
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway
Mettupalayam to Coonoor: UNESCO World Heritage rack railway (approximately 2 hours)
One of the most scenic rail journeys in India. The steam-powered heritage train departs Mettupalayam (30 km from Coimbatore) each morning and climbs through tunnels, bridges, and dense shola forests to reach Coonoor station. From Coonoor station, our car will collect you for the 20-minute drive to the estate.
The broader-gauge Nilgiri Express from Chennai arrives at Mettupalayam early morning, timed to connect with the mountain train departure.
Coimbatore Junction is connected to all major Indian cities by rail. We arrange transfers from Coimbatore Junction as well.
By Road

From Coimbatore: 85 km / 2.5 hours via NH181 and the Coonoor Ghat Road
From Bangalore: 560 km / 8–9 hours via NH44 and NH181
From Mysore: 280 km / 5–6 hours via Bandipur and Mudumalai
From Ooty: 25 km / 45 minutes
The ghat road from Mettupalayam to Coonoor features 36 hairpin bends and is best navigated during daylight hours. We recommend arriving before dusk, especially during the monsoon season (June–September). Self-drive guests will receive detailed GPS coordinates and a photo guide to our estate entrance upon booking confirmation.
